Q: What causes thoracic pain?
Thoracic pain can develop from a number of factors including muscle tension, joint restrictions, postural imbalances, injuries, disc changes, and conditions such as arthritis. A proper assessment is the best way to understand what may be contributing in your specific case.
Q: What are the common symptoms of thoracic pain?
Common experiences include mid-back pain or stiffness, discomfort that worsens with deep breathing or twisting, reduced range of motion, muscle tightness or spasm, and occasionally numbness or tingling. Symptoms vary from person to person.
Q: Can chiropractic care support thoracic pain?
Chiropractic assessment looks at how the thoracic spine is moving and where there may be areas of dysfunction or restriction. Depending on what is found, care may include adjustments, soft tissue therapies, and guidance on posture and movement. Every case is different, and we assess each person individually.
Q: Is thoracic pain related to neck or lower back pain?
It can be. The thoracic spine sits between the cervical and lumbar regions, and restriction or tension in one area can influence the others. This is one of the reasons we assess the whole spine rather than focusing on the area of discomfort alone.
Q: Can thoracic pain cause pain around the ribs or chest?
In some cases, yes. The thoracic spine connects to the ribcage, and irritation or restriction in this region can sometimes refer discomfort around the ribs or into the chest wall. If you are experiencing chest pain, it is always important to rule out any cardiac or other medical causes with your GP first.
Q: Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No. You can book directly with us online or by phone. If during your assessment we feel you would benefit from seeing another health professional, we will let you know.
Q: Do you accept private health insurance?
Yes. We accept all major health fund cards. We recommend checking your level of cover with your insurer before your visit.
