What Can Contribute to Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain is common across all ages and activity levels. Some of the things we see regularly include:
➜ Prolonged sitting or desk work that places ongoing load through the lumbar spine.
➜ Long hours driving, particularly without adequate lumbar support.
➜ Repeated heavy lifting or a single session that overloads the vertebrae.
➜ Sudden awkward movements that strain muscles or joints.
➜ Intervertebral disc bulges, which can develop from a single incident or gradually through wear and tear.
➜ Muscle imbalances, where some areas overwork to compensate for others.
➜ Spinal injuries or tailbone injuries.
➜ Conditions such as arthritis or osteoporosis, which we see more commonly in older patients.
➜ Stress, which can increase muscle tension and affect how we carry ourselves day to day.
How We Approach Lower Back Pain at Northbridge Chiropractic
Every person we see comes in with a different history. That is why we start with a thorough assessment before anything else.
We look at how your spine is moving, where there may be restrictions or tension, and how your whole body is functioning together. Low back pain rarely comes from just one thing.
Depending on what we find, your care may include chiropractic adjustments to support spinal movement and function, dry needling to address muscle tension, massage and soft tissue therapy, and home stretching recommendations tailored to your situation.
We also look at the bigger picture. Your body adapts to what you do daily. Alongside hands-on care, we often discuss small, practical changes that can support your progress between visits.
Stretch Well, Stretch Often
Stretching your lower back regularly can support movement and help ease stiffness. Some stretches that are commonly recommended include:
- Pelvic tilt
- Child’s pose
- Prayer stretch
- Cat cow stretch
- Piriformis stretch
- Single knee to chest stretch
These can all be done at home with no equipment. Just a bit of floor space. While stretching is a helpful part of managing lower back discomfort, it works best alongside professional care that addresses the underlying cause.
What Happens at Your Appointment
If this is your first visit to Northbridge Chiropractic, here is what to expect.
Your first appointment is longer than a standard visit. We take time to understand your history, what you are currently experiencing, and what you have already tried. We may ask about your sleep, stress levels and daily routine. These things often matter more than people realise.
We then carry out a physical assessment to look at how your spine and body are moving.
We will walk you through what we find and explain what may be contributing to your discomfort. If we feel chiropractic care may be appropriate for your situation, we will outline what a care plan could look like and give you a realistic picture of what to expect over time.
There is no pressure. You are welcome to ask as many questions as you like before deciding anything.
Follow-up appointments are more focused. As we get to know how your body responds, we adjust the approach accordingly.
