Posture Correction
Most people don’t realise their posture has changed until something starts to hurt.
It happens gradually. Hours at a desk, looking down at a phone, driving, stress. The body quietly adapts to the positions we put it in most often. Over time, those adaptations can affect how we move, how we feel, and how the whole spine functions.
Good posture is not about standing rigidly straight. It is about the body being able to move well and distribute load evenly, without certain areas constantly overworking.
At Northbridge Chiropractic, we look at what is driving your postural patterns and what may be done to support better alignment and movement over time.

Your body adapts to what you do most often. If most of your day involves sitting and looking at screens, your posture reflects that. The good news is that patterns can change.
What Contributes to Poor Posture
Posture problems rarely develop overnight. They tend to build slowly from a combination of daily habits, physical factors, and lifestyle demands. Some of the most common contributors we see include:
➜ Prolonged sitting, particularly at a desk or with poor ergonomics, which can lead to muscle imbalances and a gradual rounding of the upper back and shoulders.
➜ Excessive screen time that encourages the head to drift forward, placing extra strain through the neck and upper back.
➜ Looking down at phones and devices for extended periods, a pattern now commonly referred to as text neck.
➜ Muscle imbalances where some muscles become tight and shortened while others become underactive and weak.
➜ Previous injuries that have changed how the body compensates and holds itself.
➜ Underlying conditions such as scoliosis or hyperkyphosis that cause more significant postural deviations.
➜ Stress and fatigue, which affect how we hold ourselves throughout the day without us realising.
➜ Footwear choices that alter alignment from the ground up.
Signs That Posture May Be Contributing to Your Discomfort
Poor posture does not always announce itself as posture. We often see people who come in for pain in one area, and a postural assessment reveals a contributing pattern they were not aware of.Common signs that posture may be a factor include:
➜ Rounded shoulders or a head that sits forward of the body.
➜ Persistent neck or upper back tension, particularly after desk work.
➜ Recurring headaches that seem to build through the day.
➜ Fatigue or a feeling of heaviness through the back and shoulders.
➜ Back pain that is worse after prolonged sitting.
➜ A sense that your body feels uneven or that one side is tighter than the other.
How We Approach Posture Correction at Northbridge Chiropractic
Posture assessment is part of how we look at every patient who comes through the door.
We look at how you are holding yourself, where there may be imbalances or restrictions, and how your daily habits may be contributing to the patterns we see. We also look at the whole spine, because posture is rarely just about one area.
Depending on what we find, your care may include chiropractic adjustments to support spinal movement and function, soft tissue therapy to address areas of tightness or restriction, targeted exercises and stretches to support better muscle balance over time, workstation and ergonomic guidance specific to your setup, and practical advice on daily habits that can reinforce progress between visits.
Postural change takes time. Your body has been adapting to certain patterns, and building new ones requires consistency. We work with you at a realistic pace and adjust the approach as your body responds.
Two Things You Can Start Today
These are general suggestions that can support better postural habits. They are not a substitute for a proper assessment, but they are a good starting point.

What Happens at Your Appointment
If this is your first visit to Northbridge Chiropractic, here is what to expect.
Your first appointment is longer than a standard visit. We take time to understand your history, your daily routine, your work setup, and what you are currently experiencing. A postural assessment is carried out as part of the initial examination, looking at how you are standing, how your spine is moving, and where there may be imbalances or restrictions.
We will walk you through what we find and explain what may be contributing to your postural patterns. If we feel chiropractic care may be appropriate for your situation, we will outline what a care plan could look like and give you a realistic sense of what to expect over time.
There is no pressure. You are welcome to ask as many questions as you like before making any decisions.
Follow-up appointments are more focused. As we get to know how your body responds, we adjust the approach accordingly.
Would you like to understand how your posture may be affecting your body?
If you have been experiencing recurring pain, tension, or stiffness and suspect posture may be playing a role, we would be happy to take a look.
